Newsletter of Hamilton Bible Fellowship

July 2007

Ah, summertime . . . I often tell out-of-towners that Hamilton is the best place to be this time of year (don’t ask me about March). So as you all are enjoying it, I’d like to get you thinking about the fall (also a good time to be in Hamilton). As a follow up to last month’s newsletter, I’d like to get a bit more specific about some of the events we are planning, and concerning the ministry areas and potential “point-persons.”

EVENTS:

  • HBF Open House: This would be for the community at large, and would include “tours,” or guides available throughout the building to explain some of the stories surrounding the construction process. There could be a short program, piggybacking off the Hamilton Club presentation which will be on Monday, Sept. 17th (that is not open to the public), as well as light refreshments. Possible date: weekend of September 22-23, or maybe early October (9/28-29 is the Women of Faith event for teenagers).
  • Celebration! This would be for HBFers, past and present. It would include a praise service, and possibly a speaker or speakers. We would encourage former HBF musicians to participate, and any former members to come. We would also welcome delegations from the other local churches. There could also be a presentation not only about the building but to some degree HBF’s history as well. Refreshments (of course) would be included. Possible dates: October. Colgate Homecoming is Oct. 6; Fall Recess Oct. 13-16; Family Weekend Oct. 20-21.
  • Appreciation Dinner: This would be for donors, suppliers, contractors and all who contributed to the project (outside of HBF). There would also be a (short) program. Possible date: Mid-November; good for a “thanksgiving” theme.

MINISTRY AREAS (with possible point persons):

  • Christian Education: Nursery, Carolyn Hsu; Children, Gaye Andrews; Adults, Michael Hayes
  • Social Events: Patty Hodge; Candy Hayes
  • Outreach: Susan Nolen; Barb Schindler
  • Building and Grounds: Charlie Cady; Leroy Hodge
  • Sound and Projection: Norm Button; Rob Charest
  • Worship Music: Putter Cox; Dianne Button
  • Sunday Welcoming: Jeff Schindler
  • Website: Chris Henke
  • Students: Ernie Nolen

The above is the result of the leadership’s brainstorming (nothing is set!). We are also finalizing the initial “Sounding Board.”  As stated in the last newsletter, a “point person” is an overseer and organizer, not necessarily the only “doer.” So – pray about these, make suggestions; volunteer! We will be recruiting event planners, especially for the Open House, shortly. Enjoy the summer . . . .

COMING EVENTS CALENDAR:

Hamilton Churches VBS: Monday July 9 – Friday July 13, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at First Baptist, for K-6th graders.

Possible Church Bulletin Nights at Syracuse Chiefs: Mondays, July 16 and 30. Watch for Sunday sign-ups.

HBF is planning to host a concert event commemorating the tenth anniversary of Rich Mullins’ death. We have already begun to recruit local musicians for an evening of his music, hopefully sometime in September.

July Birthdays: 7 Bev Babcock; 8 Mary Jo Hubbard, Shannon Young; 13 Spence Smith; 26 Putter Cox; 28 Jean Deiter; 29 Ernie Nolen (Any missing? let Putter know.)

THE QUOTE CORNER

I believe, what I believe – has made me what I am;

I did not make it, no it is making me – it is the very

truth of God and not the invention of any man.

NEWS AND PRAYER UPDATE:

Pray for John Hubbard’s recovery from surgery late last month.

Pray for settlement of the legal judgment against the Coxes.

Pray for completion of as much as possible at the building by this fall. July 9th – 20th we hopefully be completing the outside siding and trim. Continue to pray for safety. Thanks to our connection (Bob Pils), we were able to secure a donation of new carpet from a Colgate project – enough to finish all of the remaining rooms except the lobby. Pray for sufficient funds to do what we need to do!

Pray as we consider how to be more visible and accessible the annual influx of new people this August and September.
