FELLOWSHIP FOOTNOTES

Newsletter of Hamilton Bible Fellowship

September 2007

September is the month of new beginnings around here. Colgate is getting up to full speed as the population of the village has doubled. Hamilton Central School reopens as students and teachers alike return from the summer hiatus. I think the dread of it all for those folks quickly evaporates as there is a new vibrancy for everyone. We have a full calendar of events this Fall, most related to the nearly completely functional HBF facility. This got me thinking back to previous Septembers . . . . Here’s a backwards chronology, to give you all some perspective:

  • ’06: Meeting at Camp Fiver the first three Sundays; scrambling to get enough done for a provisional certificate of occupancy. First Sunday worship in the building: 9/24.
  • ’05: Building floor newly poured; installing windows and trim. “Preview” Sunday service in building shell: 9/18.
  • ’04: Trusses delivered; installed 9/15,16. Beginning of installation of roof sheathing (a lot of climbing around up high!).
  • ’03: 9/21 Groundbreaking ceremony at the site; excavation for footers and foundation frostwall begins shortly after.
  • ’00: Decision to use $5000.00 unrestricted gift from outside the congregation as seed money for the building fund; initial round of Table Talks to discuss ideas about the possibility of a building.

We met June ’03 – August ’06 in Park Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall; June ’89 – May ’03 at the Chenango Nursery School facility. Before that (’85 – ’89) we were really gypsies! A lot has happened, especially in the last four years. I am extremely thankful for the countless hours volunteered, for the many and varied skills offered, and for the unbounded energy expended on this project. All this, and the many stories of God’s provision and intervention, will be shared and celebrated this Fall. Here is the calendar of events:

  • Sunday September 23: Concert of the Music of Rich Mullins, commemorating the 10th anniversary of his death, 7:00 PM
  • Sunday October 7: Community Open House, 4:00 -  7:00 PM
  • Saturday October 20th: Celebration and Dedication of the building, 7:00 PM with reception following
  • Mid-November: Appreciation Dinner for donors, suppliers, contractors and supporters
  • Sunday December 2: Colgate Chamber Players Concert
  • Sunday December 9: HBF Christmas Play and Dinner

All times are tentative. Pray for these, that they would be effective and well attended!

THE QUOTE CORNER:

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work.

If one falls down, his friend can help him up. . . . A cord of three strands
