Our Worship Service

Hamilton Bible Fellowship meets on Sunday mornings for a service of corporate worship that includes various components. The music is a blend of classic hymns and more modern songs, with lyrical content that emphasizes the particular scriptural themes of the morning. Singing is accompanied by piano, guitar, flute, bass, and occasional percussion.

Probably the most distinctive component of HBF’s worship service is an opportunity for individuals to participate in a brief time of personal praise. Biblical praise is always content-oriented and has God as the subject. We invite people to offer “a sacrifice of praise to God, the fruit of lips that confess his name” (Hebrews 13:15). This can be a personal expression of God at work in one’s life or a realization of God’s attributes; it can include scripture reading, music, and prayer. It is a reflective and thoughtful time that can also be spontaneous and enthusiastic. But it is all praise: God-centered worship. This component is followed by a time of prayer and the observance of the Lord’s Supper, usually led by someone from the congregation. We observe the Lord’s Supper weekly because we feel it to be an appropriate culmination of worship that was ordained by Jesus Christ himself. We partake of the elements symbolically, in remembrance of his death and in anticipation of his return.

The service culminates with preaching, which is expository (teaching passages and topics in the scriptures) with a view toward relevance and application to life. Following the service there is always a time for fellowship and refreshments.

During our worship service childcare is available for preschool children; school-age children are encouraged to attend Sunday School during the latter half of the worship service.
